Changes to CPC Qualifications

From 1st January 2012 the CPC qualifications required in order prove competence to obtain a Road Service Licence or Operator Licence will be changing. This is a direct result of new EU legislation that comes effective in December 2011.

Currently the qualifications involve the following :

CPC National Road Haulage

Modules 1,2 & 4

Module 1 is a core 30 question multiple choice test. (45 minutes)

Module 2 is a 40 question multiple choice test specific to Road Haulage operations ( 60 minutes)

Module 4 is a case study type examination specific to Road Haulage Operations (120 minutes)

CPC International Road Haulage

Module 6 comprises 10-12 short answer questions specific to International Road Haulage. ( 60 minutes)

CPC National Passenger Transport

Module 1 is a core 30 question multiple choice test. (45 minutes) ( Same as Road Haulage)

Module 3 is a 40 question multiple choice test specific to Passenger Transport. ( 60 minutes)

Module 5 is a case study type examination specific to Road Haulage Operations ( 60 minutes)

CPC International Passenger Transport

Module 7 comprises 10-12 short answer questions specific to International Passenger Transport ( 60 minutes)

In order to transport goods or passengers in the UK only the National qualification is required.

In order to transport goods or passengers in the UK and internationally ( including Republic of Ireland) both qualifications are required.

NEW EXAM FORMAT

From 2012 the CPC qualification will be open to other awarding bodies in addition to OCR.

The new qualification will merge the National and international qualifications and will consist of 2 exams. These exams will comprise a 2 hour 60 question multiple choice examination and a 2 hour case study / extended answers paper.

There will no longer be  a core module for Road Haulage and Passenger Transport so in future if a candidate wishes to have both qualifications then they will have to do both complete qualifications ( 4 exams in total)

TRANSITION ARRANGEMENTS

Candidates who have not yet completed the full National qualification no longer have the opportunity to complete this and will now have to sit the new exam format.

Candidates who already hold the National qualification but do not yet have the International qualification have until the end of 2012 to gain this qualification. After this point the separate International exam will be discontinued and candidates will have to sit the entire new qualification and exams.

Candidates who already hold the full qualifications are still classified as Competent as these are lifetime qualifications and do not need to repeat any qualifications.
