ATA Panel- Now at TTS
On 26th November 2009 TTS became the first training centre in
TTS achieved this after a rigorous assessment process carried out by Andy Fronks of IMI.
The ATA Accreditation is a nationally recognised independent assessment of the competence of technicians and has the backing of vehicle manufacturers, insurers and Thatcham. ATA is now seen as an integral part of PAS 125- the BSI technical specification for the process of Vehicle Body Repair- and for Repair Centres seeking to achieve the Thatcham BSI Kitemark.
To achieve the ATA Panel Technician Accreditation, technicians are assessed in 6 practical tasks over a two day period. These are:
- MIG welding to BSI standards 1mm
- Spot Welding to BSI standards 1mm
- Rectification of panel damage- panel beating techniques.
- Preparation, application and finishing of cold filler.
- Panel Removal and replacement procedures- bolted panels.
- Panel Removal and replacement procedures- welded panels.

The three candidates that took part in the two day assessments were Jason Moorhead and Matthew Bell from Wrights Accident Repair Centre in Dromore and Matthew Gorman from Lindsay Cars Accident Repair Centre in Lisburn.
With the purchase of some new equipment and hard work by the TTS staff, approval has also been granted for ATA assessments for Senior Panel Technicians.
